Martin Luther was always very afraid of God. God was a strict Judge Who required justice. And he knew himself as a sinner. So he hoped that he would be able to live a pious and holy life when he grow older. Only then he could die and appear for God as a good man.  We saw that back in a happening after Luther visited his parental home. He came in a heavy thunderstorm were thunderbolts were hitting the area nearby him. He was so afraid to be hit by one of those bolts that he said `Help me, Saint Anna, Then I will become a monk!` This was the reason Luther entered the strict Augustinian Monastery of Erfurt in 1505. When he told his friends they made a joke of him but he was serious. Even his father was unpleased with it because he hoped that Luther would became a rich man and not a monk. But after a few months he was okay with it. Luther was a very serious man in the monastery and lived up to his duties as a monk. However he couldn`t find peace in his heart, although he was fasting, praying studying and confessing very seriously! He felt that even with how good he was trying with his penance and his good works, that he could never satisfy God. He hoped that a visit to Rome could help so he went to it. He visited al the `Holy places`. He had also climbed the well know stairs of the Saint Peter cathedral(that`s one of the holy places).  But he still couldn`t find peace. It was even his first time that he started to doubt about the teaching of Rome. Because he was angry about the lives of many clergyman. Because instead of that they lived a holy live, did they live often a disrespect, lawlessness and luxurious live!

A thunderbolt  in nature.
